Journey to Friendship.
Colby Weintraub

In second grade I moved not far but I was forced to go to a new school Wildcat Elementary. I gazed across the class getting ready to introduce my self. 44 eyes were on me I felt like I was a new species and the other kids were scientists studying me. The teacher told me I had to share three things about me and my name. “ Hello My name is Colby James Weintraub.” I said in a quit subdued voice it was so faint that my teacher told me to say it again.
“ Colby James Weintraub” I said into the microphone. Some kids giggled and passed notes to each other I did not know what was on the notes but I inferred it was about me. I saw some kids whispering what kind of name is that. I was about to say stop but I knew they would keep going. In my old school I had no friends but this was a fresh start so I could not blow it.
I love Buzz Light Year So for the first thing I said was. “ I love Buzz Light Year and someday I’m going to defeat Evil Emperor Zerg!” Hahahahahahahahahaha The class burst into laughter I felt like an outcast why me.
“I’ll never have any friends now.” I got a little tear in my eye, then Ding, Ding the kids ran at me like stampeding rhino. I was trampled and all the kids were outside for recess. I started to crawl into the hall and my clothes were drenched from my tears. Finally I reached the water fountain I crawled under it and there I sat dormant for recess. I asked the teacher if I did not have to share my other two things about me and she did not say anything she just she took her head and moved it up and down then wrote yes on a piece of paper.
The next day during circle time everyone would share but me I just said pass and that would be the only words I would say all day. Pass, pass, pass I just kept saying that and for recess I would be inside under a water fountain. I would stay under there every day we went out side for recess. During math time I would draw pictures and not listen to what the teacher had to say. For the first three weeks I did not say a word except pass. One day while I was under the water fountain waiting for class to start again a third grader comes walking right by I knew she saw me she was gazing at my tropical lush green eyes but she kept walking like I was a waste of space. On Tuesday it was the first day of September meaning I have been here for three weeks and only said pass. During circle time Every one was sharing finally it was time for the person sitting next to me to share and do you know what he said he said pass he said that I still felt like an outcast but I was not the only one that said pass during circle time. I know that him saying pass was my first step toward the light at the end of the tunnel. After that week I decided that Monday would be the first I go outside for recess.
Ding, Ding I got up and ran to the door that let us go outside and before I was able to push it open I froze and thought about the people that would make fun of me but I went for it. During recess I saw some kids playing tag so I said, “be brave Colby ask if you could play. I did and they said yes.
At first I was scared to walk threw the tunnel to reach the light at the end but I took a step in and now I am enjoying the sun and have a copious amount of friends but that would of never happened if that kid never said that infinitesimal word PASS!!! I gave up and thought I would never get any friends but it was not me that maid me a believer but someone else.
